Lifting threads are a non-surgical way to tighten and lift your skin from the inside. At Beauty Refined, we often use them to help reduce nasolabial folds, also known as smile lines.
Lifting threads are a great alternative to cheek fillers, which can sometimes broaden the face. Instead of adding volume, they reposition fat tissue that is falling down due to age and loss of collagen. The threads effectively reposition the skin to where it used to be. By pulling the cheeks back with the lifting threads, we can get rid of smile lines as well as a bit of jowl heaviness.
Smooth threads are another nonsurgical skin tightening option. They use a similar technology to lifting threads, but they create more gradual results and sometimes work better in different areas of the face.
Smooth threads do not pull the skin back the way lifting threads do. Instead, they simply stimulate collagen to help the skin naturally retract and tighten over the months following treatment. We typically do a crosshatch pattern of smooth threads to stimulate collagen throughout the treatment area.
With smooth threads, you don’t see results right away. Smooth threads just hang out in the skin and stimulate collagen production over time. Over the next six months, while your skin is breaking down the thread, the collagen stimulation starts and you get a beautiful tightening effect.
The PDO (Polydioxanone) Threads are absorbable surgical sutures. These sutures are placed into the subdermal layers of the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production.

MINT PDO are hypodermic needles preloaded with a synthetic PDO absorbable suture. PDO threads are FDA-approved and one of the safest materials that can be used in the body. Your skin will fully absorb the thread within 4 to 6 months without leaving any scar tissue.
The sutures (threads) are placed underneath the skin to achieve an immediate lift but it will also create a “selective inflammatory response” that helps your body stimulate collagen to create a longer-lasting result. The same effect can be seen in other procedures such as fractioned lasers, skin tightening treatments, and micro needling. Our skin is excellent at repairing itself, and by inserting the Novathreads underneath the skin, you can achieve a more lifted appearance while also stimulating collagen naturally.
A small amount of anesthesia is injected into the area where the thread will be placed to ensure you don’t experience any significant discomfort. You may experience some slight bruising or swelling after your treatment but no downtime is required. In fact, you can go straight from your appointment to whatever’s next on your schedule that day.
